Discovering Connection Through AcroYoga: A Yoga Teacher’s First Flight

As a yoga teacher on Koh Phangan, I’ve always found deep meaning in the balance between strength and surrender. Yet my first experience with AcroYoga in Thailand opened a completely new dimension of connection, playfulness, and trust.

The First Lift

It happened one sunrise on Koh Phangan, surrounded by the gentle hum of the island. I watched two practitioners moving together, one grounded and one lifted, in a seamless dance of breath, balance, and trust. It was mesmerising.

When it came time to try, I felt a familiar mix of curiosity and fear. My partner, the “base,” looked up with a calm smile and said, “Just trust me.” And somehow, I did.

As my feet left the ground, the world shifted. I wasn’t just flying; I was letting go. In that moment, I understood that AcroYoga isn’t about acrobatics. It’s about deep communication, mutual respect, and presence.

Lessons in Trust and Connection

As teachers, we often guide others toward self-awareness, but AcroYoga practice reminds us of another essential element: relationship. It’s yoga in motion, shared between two or more bodies, where balance only exists when both participants listen and respond.

It teaches trust in allowing someone else to hold you. It teaches support, in learning to be the base for another’s growth. It teaches verbal and energetic communication, as it awakens playfulness, the medicine for the overly serious mind.

I realised that AcroYoga is a beautiful metaphor for community. It thrives when everyone feels safe, seen, and supported.

A Yoga Practice That Builds Togetherness

AcroYoga blends the grace of yoga, the strength of acrobatics, and the healing energy of Thai massage. It strengthens the body but, more importantly, softens the heart.

In our upcoming AcroYoga Teacher Training in Thailand (April 2026) at Moksha Passionate Yoga, we’ll explore these dimensions in depth, learning the art of alignment, partner trust, and teaching techniques to safely share this transformative practice.

Later in the year, our AcroYoga Retreat in Koh Phangan (October 2026) will invite practitioners from around the world for a week of connection, laughter, and flight — perfect for anyone wanting to deepen their practice or simply experience the magic of being supported and uplifted, both physically and energetically.

Why Every Yogi Should Try AcroYoga

Even if you’ve been practising or teaching for years, AcroYoga brings you back to the beginner’s mind. It reminds us that yoga isn’t only an individual journey; it’s also about connection, communication, and community.

At Moksha: "When we rise together, we all fly higher."
